How stoked are you to be riding for
Insight, was that something that was in the works for a while or did it kind of happen out of the blue?
So stoked man, psyched and thankful! I'm hyped to be with good people on a fun unique company. It was a little bit of both, I was flowing elsewhere and got a rad random call from Jamie. From there we got it in the works and Lannie hooked me up! Now I'm getting settled in looking forward to gettin'er doneeeeeee.
From watching your footage, you seem to have a rather sprightly approach to skating.
Would you attribute the spring in your step to anything in particular, or does it come naturally?
Do I? Damn, well thank you. I would without a doubt attribute whatevs to salt vinegar chips, my boy cheerios, and the waffle grip on these vans. Na really I'm just trying to jump around on fun.
How important is a skater's character compared to their abilities on the board? If someone is a rad ripper but is a total kook, what are the odds they'd make it as far as a well-liked gentleman such as yourself in the skate world?
To me character is just as, or more crucial. EVERYONE is really good at skating, but not everyone is really good at being a human being. No amount of skill can compare to being a rad soul, and no amount of skill is respected more than respect itself. The people I admire the most drop as many or more life hammers as skate hammys. Your odds are best being you, staying humble and staying hungry...I think.
Does your mind ever get distracted briefly and drift off to think about random stuff when your mid-trick on a long handrail?
Indubitably mate, indubitably. (laughs) Meaning ya, then re-focus sets in as I realize I'm slamming on said long handrail.
After busting out big time for your Toy Machine 'Brain Wash' part, did you take a little time off from filming to recharge the old Dan Lu batteries?
Na na and ya ya, days of rest indeed but I kept it going, must do. Always hungry.

When it comes to cut-off shorts, how short is too short for you, where do you draw the line?
Pshhhhhh, balls out on a 360 flip, that's the line. They're comfortable like function over fashion.
Quick hypothetical scenario, if you were going to play a surprise prank on your brother Andrew Lutheran involving a gallon of expired milk, one disgruntled barnyard animal, and one used blow-up doll, how would you rig up said prank?
Drew comes into the Lu barn after busting his first casper flip ever, thirsty but psyched, he eyeballs the living room to see an odd scene: a disgruntled bull reclined in a Lazy-Boy, rounds of "white russians" (expired milk) on the table and me and Wilma (blow up doll) makin sweet love to the tunes of Lady Gaga. Quickly I slide out from under Wilma, raise a white russian to Drew, the bull, and herself, and as Lady Gaga belts out "Poke Her Face" we shout " your pro!!!" Haha I know it's not really a prank but it's a story, and good one at that. Bro you're pro! Whatevs.
What would you want the Transitor Sect to be doing on your board graphic if you had a pro deck come out featuring that character?
It'd be flying into space drinking coffee with Drew Lu on his back, smilin' slappin' some beauty buns havin' the good funs.
If a kid wanted to hit you up for a lovingly used deck of yours at the local skatepark, what would be a good trade offering, in your opinion?
Depending on the condition said board is in, 10 bucks or your sister.
How do you want to rap this up Daniel, want to thank anyone?
Shout out to all my awesome friends, family, Albuquerque, Long Beach, sponsors, ma and pa, Chief and Lannie, and planet Earth your killin' it. Solid.
